Welcome

Thank you for visiting the RAF Brize Norton Community Support website. This is a new website which is being developed in an attempt to improve the lines of communication at RAF Brize Norton between the Community Support Team, Service personnel and their families.

The Team’s priority is to inform you and your family about events, activities and services run by or conducted at RAF Brize Norton. This website will hopefully give you some general information There will be regular updates over the coming weeks and months.

The Team has set up several E mail distribution lists. These are all determined by the area in which you live, if you are in SFA / SLA or private accommodation and if you have children etc…This has been done to try and ensure you only receive information which is relevant to you and you will find useful. When information is relevant to all we will use a master distribution list which will include everybody. If you wish to receive all information regardless please ask to be added to all of the lists and not just that which we have felt is appropriate to you.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the Community Support Team at RAF Brize Norton and explain their areas of expertise:

HIVE

Miss Melanie Bushnell, our Hive Information Officer is contactable on 01993 895349 and is situated on unit, in the Hive which is within the Community Support building (to the rear of the Oasis Café). This facility is available as follows:

Monday: 9 am – 3 pm.

Tuesday: 9 am – 3 pm.

Wednesday: 9 am – 3 pm.

Thursday: 9 am – 3 pm.

Friday: 9 am – 3 pm.

The range of information within the HIVE is extensive, focussing on: New Postings, Local and Unit facilities, Education, Housing, Childcare, Healthcare, Employment and Training, Travel and also Welfare Referral Support.

There are dedicated agencies that visit on a weekly basis, Citizens Advice Bureau, a Solicitor service with a free initial consultation, and also RELATE who offer counselling to personnel and dependants who encounter relationship difficulties. All counselling sessions are funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund. Arrangements with all agencies are always strictly confidential.

Housing

WO Yvonne Conway is the expert when it comes to housing issues. She is also located in the Community Support building and is available Monday to Friday 8 am – 5 pm. Her contact details are 01993 895350. Both WO Conway and Miss Bushnell are very approachable and willing to help in anyway they can. Although I have stated their expertise in local information and housing, they also have good links with a wide range of Welfare Facilities (SSAFA, RAF Benevolent Fund, Relate, Citizens Advice Bureau, local Authorities etc). Additionally, they are well informed of social events organised for the RAF Brize Norton Community.

Community Development Officer

We also have a Community Development Officer, Mrs Lin Kennedy who has fantastic links with the Local Authorities and can also provide you with information on community matters and Future Brize. She is available on 01993 897068, Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm.
